Fisher Island is a 216-acre private island residential community of unrivaled luxury and splendor. As of the 2000 census, Fisher Island had only a total population of 467 persons. Fisher Island is 3 miles off shore of Miami, and is regarded as a very exclusive and wealthy community. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Fisher Island had the highest per capita income ($236,238) of any place in the United States in 2000.

Also available to Fisher Island Residents is a conference center located at the Tennis Center, this fully equipped corporate board room comfortably accommodates up to 40 people and is equipped with audio-visual technology.

For those residents that enjoy the outdoors, Vanderbilt Park offers something for everyone to enjoy at this community park, including a children’s playground, exercise area, dog park, basketball court and volleyball court. For the little ones, there is Fisher Island Day School, a fully accredited private school currently has over 80 students enrolled in its toddler through fifth grade programs.

History of Fisher Island Miami Florida

The Fisher Island was created in 1905 by a dredging and land reclamation project in and around Miami Beach. Construction of Fisher Island began in 1919 when Carl G. Fisher a land developer, purchased the property from businessman and real estate developer Dana A. Dorsey, southern Florida's first Negro millionaire. In 1925 William Kissam Vanderbilt II traded a luxury yacht to Fisher for ownership of the island.

Fisher Island is a census-designated place (CDP) and town located on a man-made island of the same name in both the City of Miami Beach and on unincorporated land in Miami-Dade County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had only 218 households and a total population of 467 persons. The relatively small Miami Beach portion, at the extreme northeast part of the island, contains only one building. The developer is building the first new building on the island, and only two more buildings will be completed. This will finish the development on the island, and leave it to 750 units, or 29% of an acre per apartment. As one famous resident says, “You get all of the amenities of a high rise while remaining close to the dirt.”
